Greens Notice: October, 2019

It only seems like yesterday when we were preparing the course for a busy season but we are now already gearing up for the onset of winter golf. There are a lot of things to consider for winter planning including the condition of paths, potential new winter tee box areas, better winter pathways away from green and bunker edges etc.

There are a couple of major changes being planned over the winter period.

Firstly, we will be removing the 15th green backstops/mounds. The main reason for this is that the greens staff can’t cut the mounds….they are simply not mower friendly. When presently attempting to cut these mounds they often damage the blades and settings. It, therefore, makes sense to remove them. A wintergreen will be used through the winter to allow the work to be safely carried out, this will be cut in the next few weeks in preparation.

Secondly, we are going to redesign the 18th tee box, levelling it out and allowing full view of the green from the white tee box area. This work will be completed by our own in-house greens team. The greens committee and greens staff have walked the course looking at what other work might be undertaken over the winter period if time and weather allows. This is no more than a ‘wish list’ at present but we are looking to cut back the bushes on the left-hand side of each of the tenth, eleventh and twelfth holes. Whilst not only tidying up the course, it will also allow improved air to the course for better growth.

If anyone wishes to see the potential work plan, just drop me a line and I will send over.
