Members Interest: June, 2019
A Very Worthwhile Cause
A former member of Saltburn Golf Club, Chris Allinson, at only 28 years of age, was cruelly taken from us after a seizure in his sleep in 2018. A devastating day for all of his family and friends.
To help prevent this happening to other families, Neil Russell of Cleveland Golf Club and our own Darren Nalton from Saltburn Golf Club will be raising funds for Epilepsy UK, with half the money raised also being donated towards Chris’s daughter Millie’s future.
On 25th June, Neil and Darren will be completing 125 holes of golf in one day at Saltburn golf club. That’ll mean covering around 35 miles (more if they don‘t hit it straight). This event fits nicely in with the clubs 125th anniversary.
All donations towards both these causes will be gratefully received.

Another ‘Ace’ Achievement
May 21st started out as a normal Tuesday for Tricia Cook, playing in the Summer Trophy with her playing partner Sylvia. That is, until they reached the ninth, where Tricia scored a hole in one!! Tricia later said “Finally after 20 odd years, a hole in one, but well worth waiting for. It was a pity about the ten on the second though!”
What makes Tricia’s achievement even more remarkable, is that she only returned back to playing a few weeks ago, having undergone a triple heart bypass last autumn. A tremendous achievement indeed.
Tricia’s hole-in-one brings the tally at Saltburn Golf Club over the past couple of months to four!!
Golf Bringing the Generations Together
Club member John Davies, 75, enjoys a round of golf at Saltburn with his 12-year-old grandson Max.
Max showed an interest in playing golf just over five years ago, and got his first half set of clubs for his 8th birthday. He initially joined the Golfing Academy at Stokesley, and quickly rose through the ranks, before joining Saltburn Golf Club at the beginning of last year.
John admits that playing golf with Max is one of the most enjoyable things in life, well, that was until recently when Max started out-driving him!
In Memory of Past Members & Friends
Sadly, during May this year, we lost two of our Saltburn Golf Club family:
Gene Jarred died on the 15th May aged 87 years. He joined Saltburn in 1972 and was Club Captain in 1983. He was an active and well-respected member of the club.
Sheila Lockwood died on 28th May aged 93 years. She joined Saltburn in 1971 and was a social member in more recent years.
