Competitions News: July, 2019

The seasons competitions are now in full swing. If you have been allocated a tee time in a competition final please do not remove your name without informing Competition Secretary, Peter Webb – he will re-allocate the vacancy. If gaps are left on the booking sheet by players removing their names directly the system allows others (not finalists) to book the available slot and this causes confusion.

The date of the McBain Cup (Medal) Final has been changed from Saturday 6 th July to Saturday 20 th July. (A McBain qualifier competition is now being played on July 6 th )

Competition Results Summary

The Shaw Cup was eventually won by Rob Nixon who beat Steve Ferguson in a play-off. This was after the pair played a draw on the Shaw Cup Final Day.

The Hodgson Rosebowl was won by Harry Rowbotham.

The Veterans Cup was won by John Gegg with 39 points from Richard Morgan, 37 points.

The Kemball Shield Final was won by Colin Turner and Don Stubbs who beat Danny Hartley and Mike

Hogg.

Hodgson Rosebowl

The main men’s competition played in June was the final of the Hodgson Rosebowl (par bogey). This was played over 36 holes on Saturday 15 th June. The competition was won by Harry Rowbotham.

Having recorded an impressive +2 for the first round, Harry returned an incredible score of +8 in the second round (playing off a handicap of 4 at the time!) to win the competition by some distance.

Our congratulations go to Harry, pictured below being presented with the Hodgson Rosebowl trophy by Captain, Les Manship.

Men’s Senior League Success

The SGC Men’s TUGC Senior League team had an unusual, resounding home victory in their match against Hartlepool GC on Monday 17 th June, returning a match score of 12 – 1. The team were sporting their S G Petch sponsored team shirts for the first time and this seems to have made a big difference!

The match was played on a beautiful, clear, sunny afternoon and the condition of the course was complemented by many of the Hartlepool team – a number of which took several photographs of the course and the beautiful views.
