Union Team Report: July, 2019
Our union team has maintained a reasonable start to the season. Since my last report we lost 13-11 away to Richmond, drew at home to Woodham 12-12, lost away to Rockliffe 18-6 and lost 15-9 away to Barnard Castle. The season now enters its final phase and we are all still hopeful of gaining promotion to division 2.
The whole squad has continued to show tremendous commitment to practice sessions and match days. I am very grateful to everyone who turns up in all kinds of weather to caddy for the players, they continue to be a constant source of support and encouragement for the lads. Also, a big thank you to our Club Captain Les Manship who turns out in all weather conditions, both home and away, to support myself and the team.
On the 16 June we played Dewsbury GC in the Yorkshire Foursomes Tournament at Wetherby GC. We achieved a great result winning the match 8 & 6. On Sunday 30 June we play Hanging Heaton GC at Wetherby in the next round. Well done to Dan White and Andy Nelson who are representing the club. On the 22 June we played Malton & Norton GC at home in the 5-man team Annodata match play competition. The players achieved a fantastic result winning 3.5 to 1.5. The victory was all the more special because two of our players were giving 12 and 10 shots to their individual opponents. The club were represented by Andy Nelson, Harry Rowbotham, James Pearson, Ben Benoliel and Dan White. A big thank you to the 4 people who caddied for these players - it made all the difference. As always, I would like to thank the Club sponsors, SG Petch for funding the team clothing.
