The House Committee Update: August 2020

Time seems to be passing very quickly this year and it is now only around 20 weeks to Christmas!

In June 2019 the House team put together a wish list of maintenance repairs that needed to be considered for approval. With the impact of Covid-19 and the lockdown period on club finances, we have now been given the ‘go ahead’ to implement a very limited programme of work to tackle some of the most important and urgent items that were listed. Some of the problems you can see in the main clubhouse corridor, with 6 windows that have seals broken and that need replacing. The front entrance doors will be replaced together with the toilet access doors in the foyer and 3 wooden window sills that have rotted will also be replaced. The main office will have a new double-glazed window fitted and the bar will also receive a mini make-over to try and make it a bit brighter. Work will start in the middle of August.

Over the past month Geoff Hughf and John J Dunn have replaced the rotten flooring in the snooker room. Materials were provided by Barry Garbutt at no cost to the club (our sincere thanks to Barry!). A more in- depth and permanent solution to the problem will be implemented when further funds become available

Covid -19 is having a major impact on how we go about our daily business. This is reflected in the clubhouse where we are fortunate to have a large lounge to accommodate social distancing rules. It would appear that we must learn to live with some of the changes that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about at Saltburn Golf Club for a considerable time to come, and some of the changes and the way that they need to be managed may not be to the liking of all members. The Catering Franchisee, Simon and his team, have worked hard since the clubhouse re-opened after the lockdown period to provide a service to members and visitors to the club. We should remember that some golf clubs have still not re-opened, yet we have! Bar and catering opening hours have needed adjustment to recognise when there is reasonable service demand and when the bar/kitchen is not busy. The current opening hours are based on our experience of bar and kitchen use over the past 3 years. As the situation with Covid-19 eases we would hope to see the bar and kitchen service returning to normal.
