Captains Update: February, 2020

I hope everyone has had a great Christmas and a fantastic start to the New Year
The men’s dinner, which was held on Friday 20th December, was a great success with over 85 men attending. We had a very good meal and were entertained by an excellent guest speaker in Kevin Connelly. We also had a raffle on the night and various gifts of spirits wines and other paraphernalia were won by a number of different people. I would like to thank all the people who donated, and to Peter Webb for compering on the night.
On New Year’s Day the Captains drive in was very well attended, Harriet Dixon drove off for the Juniors, followed by Lady Captain Rebecca Maylard, who hit a superb drive down the middle of the fairway.
This great drive from Rebecca put me under considerable pressure, especially with the barracking from some attendees J.! Luckily, I managed to stay in bounds and unusually, hit a drive straight down the middle, to my sheer delight and relief.
Everyone who attended received an invite to have a drink and snacks in the clubhouse. The atmosphere was excellent and seeing the bar extremely busy was a fine sight indeed.

Message from Rebecca
Christmas seems such a long time ago as this year is already flying by!
Having enjoyed 2 weeks in the sun in Tenerife in January (with about half of the rest of the Club) I am ready to begin the season. However, I am not sure the weather is listening, but on the plus side the waterproofs are being tested! It has been a great idea in the Ladies Section to have the choice to play off mats in all competitions as an optional choice (unless Club rules dictate mats are compulsory).
New taster sessions are beginning on the 18th April - so if any members know of any Ladies who might be interested to learn more about golf please let them know they need to contact Mike Howes our Club Pro or me.
