Greens Notice: February 2020
1st Hole Changes
Work on the 1st fairway is coming along slowly due to the extremely inclement weather that we have experienced over the winter to date. The Greens team are trying to lay turf as quickly as possible but the weather is unfortunately winning at the time of writing. They are presently averaging around 80 turf sods a day – very slow going! Our Head Greenkeeper, Phil is looking to hire in a turf cutter to cut turf from the practice ground and driving range area in order to make up any shortfall of turf required to complete work. This will save money since buying in turf is an expensive business. Completion of the 1st hole work is being given priority over any other work by the team.
The team have planted quite a few more trees along the left-hand side of the 1st fairway. Phil is also looking to plant more on the right-hand side of the 1st on the new bank. More trees may be needed but Phil and the team are looking to recover some from behind the 8th green in order to keep costs down.
Investigation work to understand the cause of drainage problems on a number of holes at the lower end of the course continues. On the 11th hole, Phil has found the cause of one of the problems - a further drain joint needs repairing and another dig is required to find the affected pipe. A couple of weeks ago the 11th fairway dried out really well after an initial joint problem was found to be the cause, but the weather seems to have now won again.
