The House Committee Update: November, 2019
The last House sub-committee meeting took place on Tuesday 15th October 2019. The availability of sufficient budget funds for the repair and maintenance of the clubhouse and facilities continues to be a concern and affects the way that we can plan for the future. We took a decision not to go ahead with replacing the bar tops in the bar and lounge due to the cost involved and as an alternative, it was agreed to sand and re varnish the existing tops instead. This will buy some time although it is still our intention to replace the tops in the whole bar/lounge area during 2021/22.
Members have raised some concerns with the present arrangement of hand dryers and paper hand towels in the locker room toilet areas. We intend to purchase two hot air hand dryers in December and these will be used to replace the existing dryers in the Ladies and Gents toilets. The existing hand dryers will be relocated to the loos at halfway house. During the meeting discussion, it was also decided to discontinue the purchase of hand towels since this will result in a saving of approximately £600 per year.
The bar and kitchen times for opening and closing during the winter months have changed from previous years and will be posted in several locations around the clubhouse. The new winter opening times are as follows:-
Bar
Mon & Tues 11am to 5pm
Wed 11am to 7pm
Thurs & Fri 11am to 9pm
Sat 10am to 9pm
Sun 10am to 7pm
Kitchen
Mon to Fri 11am to 3pm
Sat 10am to 4pm
SUN 10am to 3pm
If there are functions booked in the clubhouse then these times will be over-ridden. Members must also be aware that on some days, for example when the weather is bad, when it is unlikely that there will be use of the clubhouse, then the Franchisee and his staff may close earlier than the displayed time.
Bar and Kitchen security is the responsibility of the catering franchise, whilst the security of the building rests with the club. As a goodwill gesture the franchisee and his team secure any buggies that have been left in the car park after the professional’s shop has closed. The catering team also check that windows are closed and that there is no one in the building before they lock the doors at closing times. This procedure can take up to half an hour and saves the club from having to nominate someone to come out and secure the building.
As we approach the end of season, decorating the club house for Christmas will be taking place towards the end of November. This year it was agreed not to purchase a live tree but to use the artificial tree that we already have.
On behalf of the House sub-committee, I would like to thank members for their constructive thoughts throughout the year. Please remember that the sub-committee are volunteers giving up their time for your benefit.
